Oh My

I was opposed to Grassley  making a deal on a confirmation vote in order to get access to information about GunWalker.  First, I despise that kind of horse trading and back room dealing.  Really, that is the corruption that Blagojevich was just convicted of. But I digress.

Grassley was made to look like a fool for doing what he did.   Look like? Hardly, He is a fool -or- he is just as complicit in this as the rest of them.

Check this out.

"Let's recap:

Cole ignored or failed to recognize financial risk at AIG for years (while collecting a hefty fee).

Grassley blocked his confirmation as Deputy Attorney General.
Using a recess appointment, President Obama appointed Cole to Deputy Attorney General in December of last year, and Cole took up his position at DOJ.

Cole’s office at DOJ withheld information from Congress about F&F at ATF, a program that allowed thousands of firearms bought in the US to fall into the hands of criminals in Mexico.

In a deal with Democrats, Grassley agreed to allow a confirmation vote on Cole in exchange for access to information from DOJ about F&F.

Upon receiving that information, Grassley learned that a DOJ official partially responsible for withholding F&F details from Congress was … Cole himself."

Jeez. Whodathunkit?

Oh My....GunWalker is Expanding.

.

After Mr. Melson & his personal attorney had a nice private chat with Darryl Issa on the 4th of July, Eric Holder has received a rather harshly worded letter from Rep Issa. I posted the link to the letter the other day.

And the news concerning GunWalker is starting to come rather, oh, Fast and Furious. Seems there was a second ATF initiative, to "walk" guns from the ATF Tampa office to Honduras.

Which leads us to ask....Why Would ATF Walk Guns to Honduras?  You all know how I feel about how the Obama Administration has treated Honduras during their "Constitutional Crisis" (attempted coup) a few years ago.  Hmmmmm.

Look for Fast & Furious to heat up.  Kraut posited tonight on "the panel" that Fast & Furious looks to be a classic Autumn  Scandal....and I hope he is correct.  Things (the cover-up) appear to be rapidly going out of control....nice links to other info there as well:

So now, many in the press are looking at this case from a new angle: Obstruction of justice is a crime, but what happens when an allegation of obstruction is leveled against the Department of Justice?

Stay tuned.

I saw a post on HotAir last night about this (see above) in which the exact page in the Stimulus is noted that originally funded the program. In the comments, someone linked the piece I linked above to Boudin, also alleging a wider project than what was originally thought. Holder will go down for this- there's no way he can survive. With that in mind, how can Obama?

Hope you are correct, BK

.
Furthermore, that these idiots are actually prosecuted for their arrogance and stupidity. If we can't get them for running guns, we need to get them for lying to Congress and a cover-up. Once they go down that trail, it's going to be pretty hard to claim privilege, if Martha can go to jail, so can Eric Holder.

No worries. Obama will throw Holder under the bus. He's extremely good at that.

Nice Link, Caj

.
Notice at the bottom that Weich (Assistant to Holder) is still attempting to stonewall the Congressional Investigation. I watched most of Issa's televised Committee Hearing, and he was HOT at Weich, saying something along the lines of "why didn't you just buy a ream of black paper to send us"....because so much of each document had been redacted that realistically all one could see was the DOJ Letterhead/Logo!

As far as I know, DOJ doesn't have the right to decide what to turn over...I can't believe Issa didn't hold Holder in Contempt of Congress for his arrogance (one can hope).

Well, now we know this isn't (a) just one "bad" idea in just one ATF office; (b) we the taxpayers funded this idiocy via Obama's stimulus; (c) we are in violation of our own laws and treaties regarding arms dealing; (d) there is a cover-up brewing (see link to Tampa ATF) and probably a much bigger one at Justice.

So....what did Holder know and when did he know it? AS IF WE CAN'T GUESS. I read something earlier today (I think it was linked on Drudge but is now not there, although I may be mistaken) that Obama is going to attempt to pass stricter federal gun regulations regarding background checks and waiting periods. IOW....the plot thickens.

Curiouser and curiouser. Let the games begin.

Interesting isn't it Blonde*

Obama wants strict gun control laws for Americans but will sell guns to Mexican drug gangs. That was what this program was all about. Now he can claim its our lack of regulations that is the problem. Doesn't matter that he put American lives at risk and costs ATF agents deaths. This is the epitome of "the end justifies the means". Lies, corruption, ignore the law and the Constitution all to get elected. After 2012, what else does he have in mind?

The locals in Arizona are seeing some of these weapons turn up in local crime scenes. Surprise Surprise!

But ATF is refusing to play.

The dearth of coverage in the media is astounding....but let's keep on keeping it front and center.

Now that FoxNews has started

Now that FoxNews has started to talk about this a bit, the left is starting to get nervous about it. The answer of course?

Blame FOX.

But it doesn't stop there.

Democrats have begun organizing, and reporting on, their own "hearings".  Remember their response to the Kings hearings on Islam? Well, they are using the same playbook for this subject.

One ting is for sure, this has festered for so long in the blogosphere that Old Media is proven as incapable of keeping the lid on this scandal. It is only a matter of time now until the proverbial 'blue dress' pops up and Old Media acts as if it was on board all along.

My question is this; How long before Establishment Republicans figure out that they have as much to lose by remaining silent as Soetoro and Holder do as a result of their actions?

Speaking of Fox News

Fox News just reported (but I haven't seen it up on Drudge yet) that the s*** is getting deeper and deeper.

Apparently Melson (head of the ATF for those who haven't been following this carefully) and his attorney met with Darryl Issa on the 4th.

Guess who was buying the guns from the Phoenix straw buyers? AN FBI INFORMANT! And how did ATF find this out? Via a DEA wiretap!!!

Can you say "left hand, right hand"? You can? Now who would be the head in the middle? Oh, riiiiight! Holder. Melson also confirmed the extent of the cover-up by Holder's DOJ.

This is going to blow sky high. The Mexicans are furious, they are already screaming bloody murder, and they are going to be screaming for Holder's head.

I don't think the media will be able to cover this up much longer. Stay tuned.

If Obama really cared, he'd appoint a Special Counsel to root out the culprit(s). Today he only said the investigation is aimed at finding out "what happened"

Melson will testify before

Melson will testify before the Senate but it comes at a steep price. Grassley has had to agree to allow a vote on Obama nominees in order to get documents from the DOJ and Melson's testimony.

Hey Rick,

I submit that the "deal" you linked to is just the kind of corruption that Rod Blagojevich was just convicted of.

To think the Senate has to consent to nominations in order for it to gain access to information regarding its oversight capability - or worse yet that it had to do so in order for the Executive to relent before House demands for information, stinks of pay to play. It is like Grassley is saying, "I've got this thing, and it is friggin' GOLDEN!" Or maybe it is Soetoro saying, "I've got this thing and it is friggin' GOLDEN. "

Either way, it is a point to say that Bork Politics was made fair game by Democrats. It is fair game to say that, sometimes, fire is the best tool to be used against fire. But I submit that the House retains the checking tool our Founders set forth. Appropriations!

I would much rather Boehner and the rest of the Majority in the House said bluntly - "No information compliance? OK, then, no no' money for the ATF (which means no mo' money for DOJ so monies can't be diverted by the Executive to fund it anyway). Hey, on that front, no mo' money at all, not for DHS or State or ANY Executive agency, department or bureau budget until such time as all documentation, unredacted, is officially turned over and ALL who have been called to testify have done so.

Barry got the actual goods while Grassley got a promise- from Leaky Leahy. Yeah, that is gonna work out well.

Noteworthy it is that Barry held a press conference today. Here is my take on it. Gee, was I anticipating GunWalker fireworks? Well, a guy can dream, right? I much, there are some hilariously stupid comments from Barry in today's off prompter debacle. Here is what I wrote as I watched it.

First question goes to the AP. Tax increases. Sheesh! Democrats had 60 votes in the Senate, clear Majority in the House and the White House- and did NOT raise taxes. AP beat the dead horse, still.

Barry's answer? (Translated) I had spending necessarily skyrocketed to be able to say "both sides" have to accept "painful" things. Blah Blah Blah. He is making a 2008 campaign speech, still. Imagine that. Did you know your taxes are lower than they have ever been? Yeah, right, Barry. Forget about the reality that there are more kinds of taxes, fees and fines, at all levels of government, than there ever has been. No, that doesn't matter, does it? Oh and he said that money doesn't come from the middle class - where does he think the profits he derides come from to start with??

Chuck Todd up next. Asking about Constitutionality. From Debt Ceiling to gay marriage. Ugh.

Answer - Libya to start. Oh MY, Barry just likened Gadaffi to bin laden. Hey Barry, Bush went to congress to go after Binny. He said there have been no boots on the ground. So who is painting those targets, Barry? He comments on "no deaths". How about those deaths in Afghanistan under your ROE? I'm sure Chuck Todd will follow up with that question....
(Barry makes a noose comment - I am sure Al and Jesse are about to scream Racism. Maybe Louis, too.)

"I don't even have to get to the Constitutional question." - Barack Obama 6-29-11

"That is a good legal answer." Barack Obama 6-29-11

Now those are KEEPER QUOTES!

Then, he turns around and his next statement is that DOMA is "Unconstitutional". What a double talking buffoon.

Next up - Bloomberg. Debt and regulation (Boeing). Rebuild transportation infrastructure is his answer.

Seems the press is getting a little restless.

Simplify tax code, he says. Get the volts mandated in South Korea he says in other words. Jeez.

He chides those pointing out that regulations are strangling job growth. Campaign, campaign campaign. It's all he knows.

Boeing has to "follow the law in deciding to move a plant". Dang man, is the dude that dense? It's called FREEDOM, you fool. Socialist and Communist governments decide where private sector businesses are located.

Next - NYT - procedure for captured terrorists? Ahhh, GITMO?.
"Raise the risk to kill terrorists" because of no real directives about where to take them. NYT bites Obama?! Ouch Barry talks Due Process for terrorists - as he refuses to try KSM, still! Ridiculous. Major Dancing.

FOX up now.

Mike Emanual asks for a defining of "Victory" for the deployed soldiers. Barry talks "success". Iraq? He says "The remainder of our troops will be coming out by the end of this year". There is another KEEPER QUOTE. Off the teleprompter, Barry is a gaffe machine.

Back to lIBYA. ( I missed who asked) "Promise made, promise kept." he says. Now asked to define "success". Barry answers with "THE U.N HAS SAID......" OMG
And he even goes to the ICC....

No fast and furious yet, imagine that.

Laura WSJ - back to debt and gay marriage. He now talks about reducing debt and deficit at a time when he could not possibly be President. 2021 to 2023. More foolishness.
Now he takes credit for tax cuts. Absolutely Amazing. Wants more tax breaks for businesses - after he chastised them earlier. He is a walking contradiction.

I will keep giving you the same answer until I give you a different one. ANd that won;t be today". ANOTHER KEEPER.

GUNWALKER! BY a Mexican reporter. Asks about disbanding the ATF.

HE says AG would NOT ALLOW guns to go to Mexico. "Gotta find out how that happened. Appropriate actions will be taken." Now he jumps to E-verify and immigration reform. Pathway to legal status. What a Dodge! He ducked totally when Mexico will get answers.

He is asked again about "the investigation". He says it would not be appropriate for him to comment on it until it is completed.

Obama on Gunwalker - NO COMMENT.

CNN up now, and no press on Gunwalker. Nope. Back to debt. LAMESTREAM proven, yet again. Press? Hardly.

Barry doesn't like that consequences come from the Stimulus spending bill coming due. He is fearing people pulling out their capital. Well Barry, start LISTENING then. See how that works? What a fool. Now he says government shouldn't be picking and choosing which bills to pay. Imagine that. Maybe try ummm enumerated powers......

He blames Congress for spending as he wanted them to spend. How interesting.

He is restrained and not engaging in scare tactics. Can he do anything but lie?

And now he talks about his kids? I thought he didn't want his kids talked about? He says he met with every single caucus for an hour or hour and a half. Did ya meet with the TEA Party causcus. Barry? Factcheck is gonna have a field day with this presser. Well, it could.

Laughter by the press now. As Obama says he has been here "doing bin laden" while congress has been gone. My MY.

John Boehner, are you listening?

Another question about debt and taxation. More talking points.

And he wraps it up.

Let this recount serve as a self evident indictment of the so called mainstream media. Fox News Included! With Barry unprotected by the teleprompter, none of them even push Obama on GunWalker, the biggest scandal supposed Pulitzer Prize seekers could ever wish for. Let it be shown, for all to see, that questions aren't being answered because they aren't even being asked. There is no media watchdog keeping an eye on government. There is only a state run media protecting government from its own actions by being part of the cover up rather than reporting on what is indeed being covered up.

Let see what is going on in

Let see what is going on in the anti-gun town of Chicago. Let's ignore the Supreme Court ruling and deprive the subjects of thier 2nd amendment rights. My solution. If you see anybody on the street with a gun, drop them in their tracks. Law abidding citizens can't have them so only the bad guys do.

We've already lost a border agent. Methinks Melson better get his story out long before he's called to testify.

He absolutely should not trust DOJ.  The Chicago Way could keep him from testifying.  And Obama has already noted he's not averse to bringing a gun.

UGH

I am really torn as to which of these two stories pisses me off more. I am so sick of basic intelligence and common sense being assaulted on a daily basis.

First, we have the Washington Compost trying to rest blame on Issa over GunWalker, implying the he knew all about it as of April 2010, but offered no objections then.

Then I read about the ATF hosting its first "gay pride" observance??? Seriously?

I have to admit, at first, I thought, well, that would explain Issa slow playing this. But that doesn't really fit, for if he did know about all of this as is implied, it wouldn't have him slowly bring it out, it would have him ignore it altogether. He would be busted in the end if he did know, and that would come out eventually. If it coming out was inevitable, which is the case, then at the least, another chair would have ben chosen.

I still think Issa is slow playing this, but not for this reason. In the WAPO article it mentions that this "program" began in November of 2009. Two things are significant there. One, there is NO WAY to "blame Bush" or Republicans in congress - as they were still in the minority. Two, In order for Issa to have been told about all of this, then it had to be known by the executive - which puts down Holder's statements that he didn't know as well as Soetoro's that he didn't know of or approve of this "program".  WAPO got sloppy (well sloppier than usual).

Jon Stewart has even finally recognized how corrupt this deal is enough to mention it and poke fun at it. However, I don't think the "comedian" excuse is going to get him out of the line of fire called criticism where Brian Terry's family members are concerned. A laughing matter this is not, on so many fronts.

Sipsey Street has a great post up today about the nuts and bolts of this alongside a pointing out of the reality of just how big this scandal really is. Oversight committee? Hardly, it is indeed past time for Foreign Relations and a fully independent Prosecutor.  I will be happy to offer this quote from that piece, though I would make a couple changes to it.

"The real issue is that the federal government of the United States of America, through the ATF, was the intellectual author of an illegal arms trafficking operation that violated both US law and Mexican law – and perhaps international law. That is institutional and governmental corruption of the worst kind, above and beyond a few AKs crossing a border."

It is "an" issue, possibly among the top of the list, not "the real" issue, imho, because the underlying goal of this "program was to set up an assault upon the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land (specifically the Second Amendment to it but also tangentially the fourth and fifth Amendments as well).

I agree 100% that this is an example of the worst kind of corruption that exists and that is exactly why this scandal cannot be resolved by a couple of resignations. This is bigger than Iran Contra and indeed bigger than Watergate. It is not enough to see people go while the bureaucracy stays in place. Folks have to be terminated, of course, and so too do people have to be prosecuted but this corruption has to be dealt with on the infrastructure level as well.

The BATF&E has to be dissolved and the authority it has usurped  dismantled entirely.

We have long been told, and still are told, that "background checks make us safer" but this is undeniable evidence that such "lists" are ripe with abuse and we are far safer if government is not empowered to compel us to be added to them. Obviously, the Terry Family can make a very different, and more powerful case as to how unsafe the ATF made its kin.

Enough is enough. This madness has to stop. And part of stopping it is recognizing that the Establishment GOP isn't hammering this daily into every microphone and stump it has perfect access to. Weiner was out inside three weeks, and Brian Terry was killed over 6 months ago. If that doesn't demonstrate complete ridiculousness, I don't know what ever can.

Soetoro seeks to use this to get Traver installed. Yeah, an even more anti-gun rights zealot in charge of the ATF is gonna make it better, suuuure it is. It is time to remove the ATF entirely with the long overdue understanding that it isn't supposed to be there in the first place. Enough. It is time to clean up the mess and, imho, it starts here. There is no more meaningful issue this day than this example of corruption. There is no more crystal clear example of how far government has drifted from Constitutional First Principles or how far outside its boundaries contained within it operates.

Where media is concerned, and I absolutely mean Fox News here too, we are not in need of 24/7 Casey Anthony coverage, we get it, she killed her child and she should fry for that, what we need is GunWalker in the rotation mix every half hour - and no, not 15 second one liners but in depth JOURNALISM and discussion about how ugly and corrupt this scandal really is.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

Thanks, Ashrak

I somehow missed your forum when it was originally posted. This is a topic that both Rick and I are very, very interested in....so I suggest we use your Forum as we've used my Health Care forums to post interesting items and updating information.

I found this link and posted it earlier today for Rick, but it's a blog of a guy who has been "covering" this ATF debacle known as "Fast and Furious. "Weapons Grade Stupid" doesn't begin to cover it.

Rick also had a great link on the OT today at HotAir   Looks like Obama is going to throw the head of the ATF under the bus.  Apparently Kenneth Melson is a career ATF officer, which is why I can't understand why he'd be cowed by Holder and the rest of the hacks now at DOJ.  His appointment, however, is "acting", and I don't know why.

We'll see how this plays out, but Rep. Issa is a bulldog, and he's got his teeth around this very tasty bone.

It must not go from bad to worse.

Traver cannot be the "solution" to this problem. But that is exactly what is in the works. It has to be stopped.

One cool thing is that GunWalker was right here on these NewsBusters pages long before it was elsewhere. Interesting how that is true about so many topics, huh?  :)

Here is a link to another fella I know who has been on GunWalker from the get go. His name is Kurt Hoffmann. He gave me a nice  hat tip 'thank you" for turning him on to what I caught in a particular press conference -as he made light of it one of his entries - regarding the "vetoing" of the Second Amendment.

And of course the two genesis links folks should always be aware of in this story are here and here.

For months and months I have been truly amazed at how effectively Old Media has been able to sweep this under the rug and keep it hidden from the light of day.  The good thing is that the word is spreading now in ways not even the Old Media filter can contain.

Will a couple resignations put it all to rest? I don't think it will and I don;t think it should.

Someone(s) has/have to go to jail and many more have to lose their jobs - Holder and The "One" himself included. No Doubt About It.

Thanks Ashrak, Fabulous Links!!!

There are many hours of reading to be done there, I've just skimmed the surface.

It seems as though there's an "Examiner" group of gun enthusiasts who have been blogging this subject for a long, long time. I became interested when Rick's interest was piqued....he's got a good antenna and is one of the posters here whose links I ALWAYS click (I've put you in that same category).

As for your post below, concerning the WaPo & NYT "covering" for Obama....nice rant! And who isn't exactly surprised by this tactic of the Obama administration? Get its lackeys to attack the messenger, how utterly predictable. What do you want to bet that Morning Schmoe will be touting this "rumor" next to make Issa look like the bad guy. For crying out loud, he was a minority member at the time, which to my way of thinking merely indicts the democrats! For crying out loud, didn't anyone think this thing was hinky? Furthermore, who knows what was actually IN the briefing? Did the breifers "cover up" the fact that they were letting the guns "walk"? Or perhaps they made it appear as if all of the guns let loose were being closely supervised? Who knows...but you can bet the media will only mention Fast & Furious in regard to Issa's so-called "mistake".

Totally infuriating.

BTW, I'm going to e-mail Mark F. w/this Forum and ask him to keep an eye out on Schmoe's coverage of this issue. We'll know for a fact about the complicity of Obama and Holder as soon as the rest of the media starts marching in lock-step to WaPo/NYT.

I want to know what Holder knew and when he knew it, and of course, Obama as well. This thing stinks to high heaven, and one of your links made reference to this as being in contravention to one of our treaties regarding arms sales (methinks perhaps in collusion with the Mexican government, but I'm just guessing). If so, State should have been briefed as well, which makes Hillary complicit as well.

Thanks again for the links. I have some more reading to do. As these things usually go, one thing leads to another, and another.

Thanks for the kind words, and I send em right back atcha.

Hinky? OH yeah, many knew it was exactly that. IMHO, like the Weiner example, these folks think that they are so far above the "normal" people that they can do whatever they want to and get away with it. Sadly, usually they are and do. But not this time. This is one of those things, like Weiner's deal, that, once it gets out, cannot be effectively swept away.

Various state level gun rights forums, alongside the likes of CalGuns, or glocktalk, are a great resource for GunWalker materials as well. While a couple of the links I offered earlier are indeed Examiners, they are first and foremost Second Amendment Defenders, with Examiner just a tool in the box.

What we have to remember, and never lose sight of, is that none of this could be out int he open if it were not for the courage of ATF insiders who blew the whistle. Ironic it is for me to praise some of those I have long stood in direct opposition to. One could call it painful, cuz it is. However, as Otis McDonald once said, right is right and wrong is wrong.

And on this deal, which no doubt involves a bakers dozen departments, bureaus and agencies, is as wrong as wrong can be. You make great points, Blonde, about how many people and how many entities are involved. That is the very thing that made this "unhidable" the instant Brian Terry was killed as he defended himself, and his country, with bean bag rounds. That reality puts a new meaning to Zell Miller's comments about being armed with spitballs!

And the NRA seriously wonders why there was such a backlash about its support for High Level Democrats like Harry Reid? Really? Interesting it is when one looks at the timeline to see when the NRA "stood up" regarding this. So too is it the how just as interesting as the when.

Frustrating it is to watch the world around me and the people in it, all these months, and know that so few knew anything about this. As the TEA Party crowd celebrated and then found itself looking for something to do, there it was right in front of them all along. But even within that Liberty movement, Second Amendment advocates are easily dismissed as "gun nuts"....even if it goes unsaid.

The reality is that defending our Liberty has always hinged on this subject and because that particular one has been left to rot, we find ourselves in the terrible situation we do. There can be no defending rights themselves if the ability to defend them is removed. I say that as an Illinoisan, one among many, who is stripped of his Second Amendment right to carry. And you know what? Only a few more care about that enough to say something about that disgusting reality than are just starting to mention GunWalker.

The battle to secure our Liberty is on this front. It is right there for all to see, if folks will open their eyes. GunWalker is a straight up game changer on an enormous number of levels. It remains to be seen if the American people capture it - or just let it slip. Big Media will not do it for us, and it ain't like our government is going to let the cat out of the bag by telling on itself. We The People have to make GunWalker a household word. And we have to do it one emailed link at a time. Enjoy the reading Blonde, but be warned, the more you read, the more angry, and frustrated, you will become.

I have witnessed some pretty corrupt things in my 40 years on this Earth, heck, I live in Illinois, how could I not??, but this tops it all. By a long shot.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

And the media crickets chirp

It's really too bad some bright young journalist doesn't try to make his/her bones with this story.

Because it's got the potential, just like Watergate did, to a relatively unknown journalist into a media superstar.
