Obama Oozes 'Jon Stewart's Brilliant' and 'Amazing,' More Credible Than 'Conventional' News
By Tim Graham | April 25, 2012 | 14:33
Barack Obama's new interview with mouth-breathing fan Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner is most notable for his gooey praise of the "brilliance" of Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
"I don't watch a lot of TV news. I don't watch cable at all," he said, very unconvincingly. "I like The Daily Show, so sometimes if I'm home late at night, I'll catch snippets of that. I think Jon Stewart's brilliant. It's amazing to me the degree to which he's able to cut through a bunch of the nonsense – for young people in particular, where I think he ends up having more credibility than a lot of more conventional news programs do." He also name-checked a blogger:
There are a handful of blogs, Andrew Sullivan’s on the Daily Beast being an example, that combine thoughtful analysis with a sampling of lots of essays that are out there.
Not only was Sullivan a promoter of bizarre conspiracy birther theories about Sarah Palin's son Trig, Sullivan's latest Newsweek cover story offered the Easter message "Forget the Church, Follow Jesus." Don't look now, but Obama's golfing-on-Sundays secularism is showing again. But perhaps Obama is still basking in the glow of Sullivan's absurd Newsweek cover story on Why Are Obama's Critics So Dumb?
Conservatives would probably roll their eyes the hardest at Obama's dismissing the congressional Republicans as interested only in defeating him and not accomplishing anything: "they have a very ideologically rigid view of how to move this country forward, and a lot of how they approach issues is defined by 'Will this help us defeat the president?' as opposed to 'Will this move the country forward?'"
Get a load of how he thinks the "true conservative" should be more like....Eisenhower??
Frankly, I know that there are good, decent Republicans on Capitol Hill who, in a different environment, would welcome the capacity to work with me. But right now, in an atmosphere in which folks like Rush Limbaugh and Grover Norquist are defining what it means to be a true conservative, they are lying low. My hope is that after this next election, they'll feel a little more liberated to go out and say, "Let's redirect the Republican Party back to those traditions in which a Dwight Eisenhower can build an interstate highway system."

Who thinks The Daily Show is real news? The President.
And that, friends, is the sorry state of affairs America is in.

#4 how do you...
Submitted by lunchbox on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 4:19pm.
how do you understand "having more credibility than a lot of more conventional news programs do"?
That statement implies that it is a news program. It's exactly what he said.
#5 "for young people in
Submitted by balboa on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 4:22pm.
"for young people in particular, where I think he ends up having more credibility than a lot of more conventional news programs do."
There is nothing in this statement that says Obama thinks it's a "real" news show. Moreover, he specifies that for young people the show has more credibility. This is pretty vague, and again doesn't indicate that Obama thinks it's a "real" news show.
#6 I'll try again...
Submitted by lunchbox on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 4:26pm.
The phrase "than a lot of more conventional news programs do" is a reference indicating that he thinks the Daily Show is a news program.
#7 But not a conventional one.
Submitted by balboa on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 4:32pm.
But not a conventional one. Obama knows that The Daily Show isn't a real news show. He gets it.
#8 It's how he stays informed...
Submitted by lunchbox on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 4:44pm.
Not conventional, maybe, but still a "news program", as he referenced it.
He answered with "I like the Daily Show" when asked, "What do you read regularly to keep you informed or provide you with perspectives beyond the inner circle of your advisers?" So it's how he stays informed, apparently, according to the interview linked in the post.
#9 OR how he gets perspectives
Submitted by balboa on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 5:41pm.
OR how he gets perspectives outside his inner circle.
#10 So...
Submitted by lunchbox on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 7:54pm.
...either his information or his perspectives outside of his advisers come from a show that doesn't take anything seriously? Sounds great.
By the way, he was asked, "What do you read..?" and answered by talking about news shows and the daily show. And the media went wild with Sarah Palin's answer to that question....
#11 If you'd actually read it closely....
Submitted by Unsilent_Minority on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 4:50pm.
...you'd notice that he was directly comparing the two, not referencing the Daily Show as a parody or comedy of "conventional news". He is absolutely inferring that the Daily Show is "real" news, and to suggest otherwise is ignoring the obvious. But that's easy for a liberal, so you are forgiven.
#12 Whatever. You want to believe
Submitted by balboa on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 5:03pm.
Whatever. You want to believe that Obama thinks the Daily Show is "real" news, so that's what you believe. He never said that or _implied_ that. He said the show has more credibility with young people. The end.
#13 He called it...
Submitted by lunchbox on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 5:13pm.
He called it a news program, and said it's how he stays informed. I thought that was pretty clear.
I don't know why you'd think anyone would want the President to think the daily show is a news show.

#21 What in the world is Obama talking about?
Submitted by Galvanic on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 2:45pm.
Actually, Eisenhower was impressed by Hitler's autobahn system and its ability to facilitate the rapid transit of troops and logistics, especially as armies had become more motorized. He envisioned the US having a similar national road system as an imperative to national defense.
Republicans don't want to work with Obama because Pelosi and Reid shunned them in 2009-2010. It was "My way or the highway." The Republicans know that "working with me (Obama)" means accepting his policies lock, stock, and barrel.
#22 What a Surprise

"Frankly, I know that there are good, decent Republicans on Capitol Hill who, in a different environment, would welcome the capacity to work with me". What he meant, There might be Republicans who'd work with me, but they're all dead, like Nelson Rockefeller, or out of office, like Snarlin' Arlen(the Dem), or are soon to be out of office.
He said, "I don't watch a lot of TV news. I don't watch cable at all". He meant, Mooochelle has the remote and she decides what I watch.
He said, "There are a handful of blogs, Andrew Sullivan’s on the Daily Beast being an example, that combine thoughtful analysis with a sampling of lots of essays that are out there". He meant, Sully is my kind of Republican, a Democrat.
Baracka said, "for young people in particular, where I think he ends up having more credibility than a lot of more conventional news programs do". He meant, Stewie's my guy, who needs news when you've got Comedy Central?

Mah Buddy Barry, aka Barack (Part Two)
(This be the second part after the first part on mah buddy Barry. You can read dat first part here if yo wants to and if yo dont wants to who cares! http://bit.ly/I9LTCJ.)
In One ah wuz talking bout all dose emails ah gets from my bud Barry an his homies moochin fo money. Dey piss me off. Dis is a lil differant.
On Monday, Jimmy, (dat would be Jim Messina, head honky honcho fo da “Obama for America” campaign), emailed me for “input,” my sugestions in a survey on how we can make shure Barry gets fo more years in the White House.
We damn well don’t want dat moron Mormon guy moving on up to our place with all his ugly wives and his jerk-off ideas about people working for a livin and not survivin on food stamps. Do we?
On top of everything, ah heard dat Mit Romney believes in poligmy tho ah dont see nothin wrong with having a haarem of bitches. We all do dat, right? Why he would marry them tho is stupid.
Barrys fam back where he wuz born in kenya all had a bunch of wives–da men folk that is–and his daddy liked wut we call VARIETY, if yo catch my meaning and no one made a big fuss about dat!
As my new bud Jimmy put it, “Together, we’ve done some amazing work building this campaign so far. But I know that we’re in for a tough fight ahead, and we’ll need your voices and leadership if we want to win on Election Day.”
Ahm not exactly sure what “amazin work” has been acomplished and I ain’t been a leader since my dayz in the hood but, hey, if Barry’s boy Jimmy says so it must be so and if my boy Barry needs me, I’m there! But not there with money!!!! Dat boy has enuff of dat!!
As for fights, ah agrees with Barry when he said if da honky bring a knife to a fight, we brings a gun even tho we always have a knife on us, as dey say, just in case. Dat was good advise tho.
You can hep Barry and Jimmy by completin Jimmy’s survey. It has questions on what we think about the Buffet Rule, “taking the fight to al-Qaeda,” and “Ending ’Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ “. (http://bit.ly/Jqdb7P)
Look, ah never pay any taxes but if dose dumbass Repubs would jest stop being assholes and pass dat Buffet Rule, Waren would pay as much as his secratary and we could run the gubmint for a while, a few days mebbe but a few days is a few days right? . . . Well, Boy Baraka has admitted to watching ESPN a lot (imagine that!!), when Mooooooooooochelle lets him hold the remote..........and last I heard, ESPN WAS a 'cable channel', along with the one that Jon Steinberg, or Stewart, or whatever his name is, was on!!!
And, to be quite blunt and honest, I haven't found either Boy Baraka OR Jon Stewart OR Stepen Covert to be 'brilliant', 'amazing', OR 'credible..................although Stewart and Covert might be moreso that Boy BlahBlah - who is as dense and boring as a dead log in the forest.
I'm sure that Stewart will be exhilirated at this endorsement of his psuedo-news show, as will the young dummies who think that he actually knows anything.
