Dems Selling 'Obama, Clooney and You' Contest

The latest Obama e-mail to supporters begins: "Want to meet George Clooney and Barack Obama -- at Clooney's house? He's hosting supporters at his home next month to help build support for this campaign and elect President Obama in November. And he's saving seats for two grassroots supporters like you and their guests. It's just not a chance most people get -- well, ever."

The New York Daily News reports the e-mail from Obama deputy campaign manager Julianna Smoot advertises an "Obama, Clooney, and You" contest. "George Clooney is doing his part to help re-elect the President, but he also knows that it's folks like you who will decide this election. That's why we're reserving a few spots for grassroots supporters." All this is meant to add "little people" to a $6 million fundraiser for Hollywood's One Percent.

Smoot then asks for money: "If you donate $3 or whatever you can today, you'll be doing your part to support the campaign, and be automatically entered to join them in Los Angeles. The Hollywood Reporter relayed "The Oscar-winning actor and longtime Democratic activist will host a 150-seat, $40,000-a-plate fundraising dinner for the president's re-election campaign. The event will be held at Clooney's home and be co-hosted by DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg; the exec was slated to host the party, but his $35 million new home was not finished in time, which led to the search for a new location."

On Friday, Vice President Biden will be in southern California for a series of events, including a $2,500-a-head shindig at a "secret" location in Santa Barbara.

By the way, just what is "open" about selling access to the President? That's just what they're doing, selling access to the President. At any other time, it would be considered graft.

I understand they're installing a hot tub in the Lincoln Bedroom as we speak.

It's been reported for many months that the President is expected to raise $ 1 Billion dollars for his re-election. Considering that the taxpayers are already paying for his campaign expenses as he jets around the US in Air Force One, why does an incumbent need that much money?

What if he took even half of that and put it towards rehabilitating our severely wounded veterans? But that would never happen.

#7 The "contest" may be in violation of federal law

There is a federal law that prohibits contests with prizes of value that mandate a purchase of a product for entry into the contest, unless they provide an alternate method of entry that doesn't involve purchase. The alternate method is usually a mailing address where a person can send in his or her information. In some states, the postage is even paid for by the contest holder.

Since meeting with Clooney and Obama is clearly a "value," this promotion may be in violation of federal law, as I don't see an alternate method of joining.

Wow, 40 grand for a dinner which was to be in a 35 million dollar Clooney home. And here I have been told again and again that the the brat supports the 99%. Boy, have I been mislead by the Marxist, Socialist Media(MSM).

It's obvious that they treat the liberal rich completely differently than the conservative rich. Even my kids see the difference when they are watching the news with me (which is very rare). The blatant hypocrisy would be breathtaking if we weren't all so used to it by now.
