Candy Crowley: Most People Think GOP Are 'Conservative White Guys Who Want to Protect Big Oil'

Noel Sheppard's picture

As NewsBusters has been reporting of late, the Obama-loving media have been doing everything they can to play the race card as we head towards Election Day.

CNN's Candy Crowley did it on Sunday morning's State of the Union saying to Newt Gingrich, "Most people do look at Republicans going ‘They’re a conservative bunch of white guys who want to protect Big Oil’" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Towards the end of her interview with the former Speaker, Crowley brought up an op-ed in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times by Arnold Schwarzenegger wherein he complained about the Republican Party not accepting “liberal activists.”

After she finished the quote, Crowley asked her guest, “Do you have a problem with being inclusive, because most people do look at Republicans going ‘They’re a conservative bunch of white guys who want to protect Big Oil.’ And now you’re even hearing Republicans saying, ‘It’s not big enough. We haven’t opened up the tent door.’”

This was a truly ridiculous comment by Crowley because nowhere in Schwarzenegger's piece did he mention race or Big Oil. His concern was the GOP in his view is becoming too ideologically pure NOT too white.

Having possibly read the piece himself, Gingrich smiled at Crowley and said, “You probably ought to get somebody like Tim Scott or Allen West to come and talk about being a bunch of white guys since they’re both African-American Congressman, or Marco Rubio, or Susana Martinez.”

Crowley wasn’t having any of it quickly retorting, “It’s not as diverse as the Democratic Party – you’d concede that.”

“It’s not as diverse,” answered the former Speaker, “but the Democratic Party has no room for a Right to Life speech at the National Convention.”

Crowley interrupted, “Unless we get off topic.”

Get off topic? Schwarzenegger's piece had nothing to do with ethnic diversity within the Republican Party. As such, it was Crowley who was off topic.

Gingrich realized that and said, “No, but I think that’s important. Lack of diversity in the Democratic Party is ignored because they define diversity one way. The fact that the Republican Party has Rudy Giuliani who I think is one of the most widely admired people in the Republican Party and who clearly is far more moderate on a number of issues than Mitt Romney or certainly than Rick Santorum.”

He continued, “I think we have a very broad range of people who we’re proud to have as Republicans and there’s not an automatic litmus test, although we are largely a pro-Life party, and we’re largely, we’re definitely a balanced budget and pro-smaller government party.”

Indeed, and a Party far less concerned with the color of someone's skin than liberal media members doing everything in their power to make this election about race.

#1 I hope Romney hires Newt

He desperately needs, behind the scenes, Newt coaching him. Maybe in practice debates Newt playing Obama.
There're really only three or four Republicans I don't cringe listening to when they are set up like that by the media.
Marco Rubio, James Inhoffe, Paul Ryan, and Newt Gingrich (off the top of my head) never look like deers caught in the headlights. And usually slam back, harder. And then there are those Republicans who ALWAYS agree with the premise of the liberal question and try to apologize their way out.

I pray the Republicans have learned the lesson of McCain. You don't fight back in a battle when they have guns and you use a plastic spoon.

#2 It's not so much that they

It's not so much that they "agree" and try to apologize, it's that they let the liberal "journalist" frame the debate and set the terms of the argument.

#3 Spot on, MB

And far too many conservative and/or Republican interviewees seem eager to respond with a rehearsed line rather than dissemble the terms of the argument.

Gingrich is an intellectual with a quick mind, and he is outstanding at dissembling those terms by challenging the underlying assumptions and injecting facts. Most interviewers are quickly outclassed and left babbling.

Romney is rather weak in this regard. He seems to lack the agility to challenge the assumptions and explain his own argument. Romney may be a proven problem-solver, but he's vulnerable in this area.

#4 Bitter candy

Crowley is a full-fledged attack dog in the Obama army, and she's just doing her job of trashing conservatives. So darn it, Newt, quit trying to distract her with facts. The White House has sent her a script and she's going to read it, as commanded.

#5 There is no diversity in the Democrat Party!

Anyone deviating from the Democrat Orthodoxy is gone.

#6 Bitter candy

Exactly. She was, "Only following orders." We now have a state run media/propaganda arm of this administration. I wonder if Ms. Crawley has a picture of Goebbels in her office?

At least she was smart enough not to mention Christie or Newt in relation to their girth. therefore, I will not make the, "Lipstick on a pig" comparison.

#7 Just wait until the debates

NBC, CBS and ABC will talk about nothing that means much other the Democrat talking points. Obama's record is so poor there's little to talk about that means much to the American people or pretends to every day life.

#8 Jeez, Candy, what do you

Jeez, Candy, what do you think political parties are for, anyway?

Silly me.  I always thought they were a vehicle for like-minded people to band together and try to get their ideas implemented!  Little did I know they were supposed to a cross-section of the population!

#9 Most liberals think that.

"Most people" think that, Candy? Or most liberals? I can understand that most of your friends think that, but I doubt "most people" think that.

Of course, if we relied upon your, ahh, "expertise," about what "most people" think, we would have to conclude that "most people" think that the GOP is a bunch of rich, white, warmongering, racist, oil gluttons who hate the gays, want to kill women before they are 30, want to force every woman in America to be "burdened" with an "unwanted" child, want to bring back the draft, cheat on every election, and want to totally destroy our own economy while we expand our Empire and force our oppressive, fascist rule on every person on the Earth, the same Earth we're killing with our love of environmental toxins, genetically modified "frankenfood" and our total denial of "global warming. Isn't that right?

The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States. The US Constitution

Unless you're a fetus. The US Supreme Court

Or Anwar al-Awlaki.

#10 As usual, "most people"

means "my liberal friends and I"

#11 Hey, Cobra

You forgot the "homophobic, clinging to their guns and Bibles" part.

#12 Random Thoughts

Chuck Schumer, "the mouth from Manhatten", has always been the loudest critic of wall Street and Banks. Did anyone tell him about MF Global. What a missed opportunity!"
Saw a tweet on ABC," the GOP acts like the Bush years never happened!" I thought that was the reason Obama was elected such a long time ago.
Crowley gave up any credibility she had a long time ago. She NEEDS that job at CNN.

#14 some peope say...

I wonder if Christie gets the vp slot Crowley will be repeating the fat jokes obama's supporters love to use.

#15 When you weigh slightly under

a ton and a half, and your leftist goddess 'First Lady' requires one of those 'WIDE LOAD AHEAD' cars to clear the red carpet, fat jokes against Christie just won't fly!

#16 I'll admit it

I'm a white guy that wants to protect big oil. But the folks I want to protect them from are zany leftists (apologize for the redundancy) and gubmint bureaucrats that don't understand that petroleum is what drives the economy of the world right now.

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

#17 Most Republican politicians

Most Republican politicians are conservative white guys and most Democratic politicians are liberal white guys. But even beyond the process of trying get more minority representation (and more women representation), minorities are called minorities for a reason.

#18 "Most GOP's think that......

400 pound leftist media stooges kiss Barry's ass! And they're right!

#19 I ate too much Candy Cowley

you would think as a newsperson ms crowley would question why a lot of people think this way but she would have to investigate herself and her counterparts role in disinformation by not providing a balanced look at both political parties. She can't because she is just one of many so called journalist s who are operatives and mouthpieces for the Democratic party,

#20 No Candy

The GOP SHOULD be conservative white-guys who desire to protect freedom so other conservative white-guys are able to protect big-oil.

Never as bad as I am told it is

#21 Translation:

Sorry, Crowley. Your statement was translated wrongly. This is what it should say:

"Most Liberals Think GOP Are 'Conservative White Guys Who Want to Protect Big Oil"

Most 'people' think GOP are just ordinary folks of all races, creeds and genders. It's only you liberal media trolls who think they're all 'white men' who 'love oil'.

What does it say about YOU, Crowley, that your brain has that kind of bigotry and hate in it?

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

#22 Most, All, Every, Always

I am so tired of Commentatos using absolutes or near absolutes.

#23 White guys are the New Jews.

White guys are the New Jews. Everything is the WHITE guys fault.

#24 Candy Crowley

I just heard her say "..from OUR James Carville..." WTH???

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Ronald Reagan

#25 fat girls

Fat white girls shouldn't be allowed to talk about white men. especially a fat woman named candy. Stop snorting the twinkies, it's going right to your waist.

#26 They say that? Then most people are wrong. She is...

listening to the wrong people. Rush tells the story of the time Nixon beat Hubert Humphrey and an upper eastside lady was very surprised. She said none of her friends voted for Nixon so how could he have possibly won?
