Anti-Bullying Activist Dan Savage Curses at Christian High School Students, Calls Them 'Pansy-A--ed'

Noel Sheppard's picture

Dan Savage, the controversial sex advice columnist and noted anti-bullying activist, caused quite a commotion at a high school journalism convention in Seattle two weeks ago when he actually cursed at the youth audience as he spoke negatively about the Bible.

Citizen Link reported August 18 (video also follows with commentary, serious vulgarity warning):

A group of high school journalism students attending a conference called “Journalism on the Edge” in Seattle over the weekend felt they were pushed over the edge by syndicated sex advice columnist Dan Savage.

Savage, the creator of the two-year-old It Gets Better Project, which encourages teens struggling with same-sex attractions to embrace homosexuality, was invited to give a keynote address last Friday at the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention.

Students were expecting him to talk about bullying. But they also got an earful about birth control, sex, and Savage’s opinions on the Bible.

A 17-year-old from California who was attending with half a dozen other students from her high school yearbook staff, was one of several students to walk out in the middle of Savage’s speech.

“The first thing he told the audience was, ‘I hope you’re all using birth control!’ ” she recalled. Then “he said there are people using the Bible as an excuse for gay bullying, because it says in Leviticus and Romans that being gay is wrong. Right after that, he said we can ignore all the ‘B.S.’ in the Bible.

Fox News's Todd Starnes elaborated Friday:

Rick Tuttle, the journalism advisor for Sutter Union High School in California, was among several thousand people in the audience. He said they thought the speech was one thing – but it turned into something else.

“I thought this would be about anti-bullying,” Tuttle told Fox news. “It turned into a pointed attack on Christian beliefs.”

Tuttle said a number of his students were offended by Savage’s remarks – and some decided to leave the auditorium.

In the video, Savage is clearly heard saying, "We can learn to ignore the bullshit in the Bible about gay people — the same way we have learned to ignore the bullshit in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstration about virginity about masturbation...We ignore bullshit in the Bible about all sorts of things.”

As Starnes reported:

“It became hostile,” [Tuttle] said. “It felt hostile as we were sitting in the audience – especially towards Christians who espouse beliefs that he was literally taking on.”

Tuttle said the speech was laced with vulgarities and “sexual innuendo not appropriate for this age group.” At one point, he said Savage told the teenagers about how good his partner looked in a speedo. [...]

As the teenagers were walking out, Tuttle said that Savage heckled them and called them pansy-assed.

“You can tell the Bible guys in the hall they can come back now because I’m done beating up the Bible,” Savage said as other students hollered and cheered. “It’s funny as someone who is on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the Bible how pansy-assed people react when you push back.”

Starnes reported Saturday that the gay conservative group GOProud has strongly condemned Savage demanding an apology:

“Dan Savage should apologize for his comments and should apologize to the high school students in attendance whom he called ‘pansy-asses,’” continued [Jimmy LaSalvia, executive director GOProud]. “It is ironic that someone whose claim to fame is fighting bullying would resort to bullying tactics in attacking high school students who were offended by his outrageous remarks.”

LaSalvia said people of faith should be treated with respect.

“Dan Savage’s outrageous anti-Christian tirade hurts – not helps – the fight for gay rights in this country,” LaSalvia said in a statement. “There is nothing incompatible between being a Christian and believing that all people should be treated equally, and Dan Savage’s attacks on Christianity only fuel those on the extremist fringe who oppose gay rights.”

Yet what nobody's talked about is why this disgusting man would be asked to speak in front of high school students at all.

This despicable so-called human being created a deplorable definition of santorum manipulating Google algorithms so that whenever someone searched for the last name of the former Pennsylania Senator, they'd be treated to reading about "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex."

Lest we forget that Savage last year said he wished all Republicans were "f--king dead." This was on the same television program that he mentioned a desire to have violent hate sex with Santorum.

A little over a month prior, he demanded a member of the Canadian Parliament perform a sex act on him.

It therefore seems painfully obvious to this writer that if you invite this disgusting cretin to speak to a group of teenagers, don't be at all shocked or offended if he shocks and offends them.

(H/Ts from NB readers too many mention - but we thank you!)

Comments

#1 Christians need to be able to

Christians need to be able to respond to this garbage and reiterate that even the earliest Christians understood a distinction between moral law and Mosaic/ceremonial law.

For example, in responding to Savage's rant about shellfish, in Mark 7:18-23, Jesus made it clear that the restriction of eating certain foods under Mosaic law was removed by Him. Verse 19 explicitly says that "He declared all foods clean."

See also the story with Peter in Acts 10:10-16. (Verse 15: "The voice spoke to him again, a second time, 'What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.'")

-

#2 The only restrictions on food

The only restrictions on food was not to eat meat sacrificed to idols. That was for the Christian witness. I don't recall Paul ever saying there was anything wrong with it.

A well regulated militia being necessary to a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

#3 NT food law

After explaining the dream he had regarding eating previously unclean things, Peter admonished Gentiles "But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood."

#4 Christ said, 'I came not to

Christ said, 'I came not to destroy the law but to fulfill the law'. Circumcision was mandatory under the Mosaic law, but after the coming of Christ, his church said it was no longer a requirement. Many converted Jews, who had lived under the Mosaic law for thousands of years, had issues with this.

Slavery is another issue. As much as the liberal left hates to admit it, slavery was LEGAL in many ancient countries and a common practice. The whole nation of Israel was enslaved to the Egyptians - which is what Moses' most famous story was all about.

The whole law of Moses, with all it's animal sacrifices, performances and ordinances, were meant to point the way towards the coming of Christ, the Lamb of God, who would sacrifice himself for the sins of the whole world. Which is why no one does that stuff anymore (thank goodness - anyone who's read the Law of Moses will know what a pain it must have been to live by most of it's gazillions of rules - it's not unlike liberal laws and regulations).

This is a bridge that losers like this speaker just don't get, or they choose to wilfuly ignore. When you're a hardcore leftist with a heart full of hate, you need an excuse to hate Christians. So you can always trawl back through the Old Testament to come up with examples of 'barbarity' and accuse Christians of being barbarians, even though many of the 'barbaric' stuff was set aside by the Savior himself.

For today's sacrifice, the Savior asks all men for 'a broken heart and a contrite spirit'. Meaning, for men to overcome their worldly lusts, no matter how much it hurts, and come to Christ in humility. Which is something this guy will probably never do.

The truth about damnation is that most men will damn themselves. Have you ever seen someone who has given himself over to worldly passions, desires and lusts go to any kind of religious function? If they wind up at one somehow, they quickly mutter 'I've got to get OUT of here' and they start running. They can't stand the company of the righteous. The Savior himself could beg this guy to stay, but he wouldn't. The unrighteous and ungodly won't have to be thrown down to hell - they'll run screaming towards it.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

#5 Well said. The whole book of

Well said. The whole book of Galatians espouses your very point and shows the error of those who were still holding on to the levitical law. A perfect example of the Jews having issues with the old law, is when the apostle Paul rebuked Peter for not eating a certain meat that under the old law was considered "unclean" (Galatians 2:11-21)

I actually emailed this guy about what he said. Doubt I get a response except maybe a hateful one.

#6 Yes, well said Slyrr! I knew

Yes, well said Slyrr! I knew this bully stuff was aimed at attacking Christians. But the trap they set for us, the rock booby trap, will fall upon their own heads. Christians should record this type of attack and use the full weight of enforcement against such false & lying attacks.

#7 The story about Peter's

The story about Peter's vision in Acts has nothing to do with food. It's all about God declaring that the message of Christianity was not just for Isrealites but for Gentiles as well. Peter himself says this in verse 28 -"but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean"

and in Mark you need to read the whole chapter..it's talking about how the Pharisees were upset seeing the disiples eat food with dirty hands and Christ corecting them in saying the ritual handwashing is not needed.

However you are right though in that food laws are not moral laws and to equate them is as such isstupid, which Savage obviously is. It's not a sin to eat of the foods considered unclean, just not the best food to eat for your body.

#8 A suggestion to Mr. Savage...

If you ever come to Boone County Missouri for a speaking event, don't even think about behaving in this manner because I'll be in the crowd watching and waiting to break your effing nose if you do.

A bully spreading his hate under the guise of an anti bullying campaign... disgusting.

-- As kind as possible and as unkind as necessary.

#9 I suspect

that if Savage showed up in the part of Arkansas that is my home turf, and started this idiocy, there'd be a line to punch him in the nose.

And what brainless twit decided to invite this creature to speak to high school students?????

As far as his "I hope you're on birth control" comment, it's too bad Dan's mom didn't use it.

#10 We don't hate gays but they

We don't hate gays but they sure hate us.

A well regulated militia being necessary to a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

#11 Another "tolerant" left wing

Another "tolerant" left wing extremist using homosexual smear against those who disagree with him.

#12 Congratulations Mr. Savage...

Thanks to you, I'm going to approach every homosexual I meet as if he or she is as much a hateful bully as you.

-- As kind as possible and as unkind as necessary.

#13 Holy crap...

I got furiously angry. This made my blood boil so much that I never clicked on the video. The left wing are becoming more shrill and hysterical with each passing moment. There is no limit to what these putrid bastards can do. Maher, Malloy, Behar, and this little worm. This is isn't about gays or alternative lifestyles...he is purposely trying to stir the pot.

"Occupy this...I dare you."

#14 It is evident from his choice

It is evident from his choice of inflammatory terminology and aggressive attacks that his goal is not to increase tolerance or understanding, his goal is to intimidate and bludgeon people into silence. He is JUST LIKE the people who beat up gays, only on the other side.

#15 speaking of hate..

isn't this the guy who got away with using germ warfare on a gop candidate?

#16 Yep. During the 2000

Yep. During the 2000 campaign, he wrote about "volunteering" for the campaign of GOP candidate Gary Bauer (http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=3092). He said he had a nasty cold and licked the doorknobs so Bauer and other volunteers would get sick.

Why in the world this guy was invited to speak at a journalism conference is beyond me? How is he a journalist? Never mind the fact that if I was part of the gay community, I would be embarrassed to have this guy representing us. *shrugs*

#17 Fools mock, but they shall mourn

It has been rightly pointed out on other forums that this liberal is gutless. Making fun of Christians in a journalism conference is about as 'difficult' as shooting trout in a demitasse cup.

This coward would not dare to go to Iran or Saudi Arabia and deliver a speech like this. He knows if he tried, he would wind up with his dead body lying in a ditch behind the mullah's palace, with his head in another ditch on the other side of the street.

Liberals like this foul man cringe and snivel behind friendly podiums and only mock 'safe' targets that they know will not strike back. Bullies are the same. If there's any risk that their victim will hit back, then the bully looks for someone else to pick on, because bullies hate having to work too hard for their prey.

So it's a double irony that this man is supposed to be an anti-bullying advocate. He displays all the earmarks of a classic bully. He'll run for cover if he's not surrounded by a friendly crowd and protected by his patrons on the liberal left. He chose that conference specifically because he wanted a safe crowd to spout this drivel and be applauded.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

#18 "Your hate has made you powerful"

Perhaps this is more of the Lefts attempt to goad normal people in to anger and respond hatefully thereby getting the Conservatives to appear as the Left describes them.

Just like the evil Emperor goaded Luke Skywalker. He knew that anger would take Luke over to the Dark Side.

#19 Savage

Just remember folks, THIS (SAVAGE) is the Bully that said on Bill Maher's show that HE WANTED TO HAVE ANGRY HATE SEX (RAPE) with Rick Santorum. I think that Bill Maher also needs to answer to why he would allow that to be on his show. Also, President Obama has yet to condemn that comment (yet today he released $147 Million dollars in US Aid to the Palestinians, per CBS News).

"Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets". - Robert DeNiro, Taxi Driver (1976).

#20 This Ass

If this ass was paid to give this "speech" some heads need to roll. At least it was comforting to see some students leaving this hate filled "speech". This ass is a waste of human life.

#21 The idiot government "educator" that invited Savage...

...should be fired for being a dumba$$.

Seriously, all he had to do to find out what a first-rate jerk Savage is was to type his name in the Google title bar.

Should people this colossally stoopid be allowed anywhere near our nation's classrooms?

#22 Dave, don't forget the school

Dave, don't forget the school in Massachusetts that had people in teaching "fisting" to the kids!

God bless the kids who walked out on him, and the parents who raised them!

And shame on the kids who applauded him and hooted.

Apparently bullying is OK if you stand in front of a lectern and do it with authority.

#23 I was thinking the exact same

I was thinking the exact same thing when I was just reading this article - who, in their right mind (well, that gives'em an 'out', since libs are NOT in their right mind!!!) would invite and/or hire this flaming flouting flapping angry hateful self-loathing bully-pretending-to-NOT-be-a-bully obnoxious disgusting faggot anyway???

If I were a parent of a kid in that class, somebody would be suffering mightily by now!!!

#24 Well I'm sure they thought he

Well I'm sure they thought he was going to talk about bullying, not trash the Bible.

I guess they didn't research him first.

You can bet your bippy if he said he was coming to talk about the Bible, he wouldn't have been there.  And not because they were afraid he'd trash it.

#25 A hero to the Left

This mentally disturbed person is a hero to the Left and one that California schools are now ordered to admire and learn about. His hatred and bullying of good people who love God is an indication of how much he loathes himself.

Ephesians 6:12: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

As sick and unrepentant sinners come increasingly to the forefront in our society, we will hear more of this type of mocking, bullying speech; and see intolerable behavior masquerading as legitimate.

Be prepared!

#26 Starnes reported Saturday

Starnes reported Saturday that the gay conservative group GOProud has strongly condemned Savage demanding an apology:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hold on. There is no such thing as gay conservatives, just as there is no such thing as female conservatives or black conservatives. All conservatives are white males,,,mostly old. Just because GOProud members engage in homosexual sex, that doesn't make them "real" homosexuals.

As for Savage, if the audience had been gay hating muslims, he never would have berated them because of either fear, or respect for islam.

#27 I have said the largest

I have said the largest problem the LGBT community has is letting people like this guy get a pass on hateful speech.

#28 Anybody else think it funny that a flaming homo like Savage...

...is accusing others of being 'Pansy-A--ed'?

#29 Dave, he IS a flaming homo

Dave, he IS a flaming homo pansy-a@@ed faggot.........but he thinks he's some kind of 'tough' guy, so he gives himself a pass on that one. The #1 example of a flaming pansy-a@@ed homo that come to my mind is Boy Baraka.

And seriously, WHAT kind of people would go to him for 'sex advice'??? Richard Simmons?? Donkeyface Maher?? Rachel Mad-Off??

#31 The only good thing about

The only good thing about watching the video is seeing the people walking out. Funny how all of those Christian "bullies" walk out peacefully, don't say anything, and are not provoked to violence. Liberals have no concept of the double standard, do they?

#32 Nope

They just practice it often.

Facts are like kryptonite to the liberal.

#33 Let me get this straight...

Dan Savage.............Dan Savage called some ELSE "pansey-a$$ed?"

ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLRIGHTY THEN!!

#34 In this case, it really is

In this case, it really is about the children...What a complete jerk. What was the NSPA thinking allowing this guy to speak to a conference of high school students? Future "journalists" indoctrination?

#35 It seems that everyone here

It seems that everyone here misses the point, gays are using this bogus anti-bullying nonsense to pull the homo lifestyle. Bible hate is just another tool for them because they known Christians will just sit there and wallow in white guilt. When will this homo give the same speech at an islamic school?

Non, je ne regrette rien. "You aren't angry because I might be a racist, you're angry because you know I'm right".

#36 Say, Mr. Savage,

I know Christian missionaries who risk their lives every day teaching the Bible in countries where that is a capital crime. THAT is courage.

You are simply a "pansy-assed" coward who doesn't have the courage to take your message to countries where it could get you imprisoned, let alone killed. And you even have the protection of being a celebrity with the media's eye on you--cowards don't get any yellower than you.

Oh, and shame on you for bullying teenagers. You've clearly proven that your agenda has nothing to do with preventing bullying, and everything to do with promoting deviancy. Go join Obysmal's energy program, for you are pond scum.

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

#37 Excuse me Dan, you have it backward.

The kids who walked out were not the pansy-a$$ ones.  They had the courage of their convictions.

The cowardly ones were the ones who stayed and laughed with you, trying to be "cool" by laughing with....the bully.  They wanted you to think they were like you.

You employed the classic bully tactic of  ridiculing, and then getting the group to join you in ridiculing the "outsider."

#39 Sad part about this is .......

Savage got the same response from the audience as Shirley Sherrod got at the NAACP love fest for white people. It seemed the majority of those in attendance agreed with this fascist heterophobe. Scum like him can be isolated, whats the excuse of that crowd supporting his diatribe? They reacted much in the same manner as the NAACP crowd endorsed Shirley Sherrods racism. Although it really wasn't racism it was a learning experience . Right? I can't quite keep that story right.
Hey but who fired her?

#43 School Terrors Replace al-Qaeda Terrors

School Terrors Replace al-Qaeda Terrors

Now that “The war on terror is over,” according to a senior State Department Mideast expert, maybe the administration can now focus on winning the war against America’s school kids.

President Barack Hussein Obama never did acknowledge that the struggle against Islamic terrorists ever existed but it’s good to know it’s over and done with. Let’s just thank God he singlehandedly tracked down and executed Usama bin Laden!

Since 2012 is an election year and the National Education Association and the vast majority of America’s teachers sit firmly in his pocket, Obama can’t very well acknowledge that our public education system is in virtual shambles largely due to them, that battle for the hearts, minds, and souls of students may be more of a challenge than whipping al-Qaeda.

Just as with our victorious war on terrorism, the assault on children is taking place on various levels, from violence in schools, to administrators setting unseemly examples, to indoctrination into perversion.

Above all else, parents like to think their kids will be safe and protected when they pack them off to school every morning. Unfortunately, that’s far from the reality of what cherubs and teens encounter daily.

CBSNews.com, not exactly a bastion of conservative alarmism, featured an article on violence in public schools as jointly reported by the Departments of Education and Justice. (The article wasn’t considered sufficiently newsworthy to make televised news.)

The DoE and DoJ estimate that during the 2009-2010 school year some 1,183,700 violent crimes were committed in 73.8% of schools, horrendous figures in themselves although the fact that only a mere 25% or 303,900 of those crimes were reported to the police is even more stupefying.

And the violence is far from confined to minor student altercations.

The government estimates incorporate “rape, sexual battery other than rape, physical attack or fight with or without a weapon, threat of physical attack with or without a weapon, and robbery with or without a weapon.”

I wouldn’t presume to offer causes for rampant school violence but, as for reporting it, I can say from personal experience that failure is mostly attributable to administrators’ pusillanimity and their fear of having parents discover their lack of control and lack of discipline.

A male principal and a female assistant at the Scholars Academy in Quartzsite, Arizona demonstrated both personal lack of control and discipline at the same time they demonstrated another serious issue confronting America’s students: a lack of decorous professionalism on the part of the people who once were considered role models.

Principal Steve McClenning and assistant Billie Madewell were caught on film at Scholars passionately groping and kissing during school hours in a school office. Both McClenning and Madewell are married, though not to one another; he resigned, she was fired, and the town of Quartzsite was devastated.

Sadly, that public exhibition wasn’t nearly as disgraceful or unprofessional as much more common occurrences: teachers, male and female, seducing kids on school grounds, in parked cars, and in their homes, many of which incidents have been documented on this blog. . .
