Roseanne Barr Gets New Show On NBC

Noel Sheppard's picture

Last week, Roseanne Barr said the wealthy should be beheaded if they don't willingly part with some of their money.

Days later, Deadline Hollywood reported that the geniuses at NBC have decided to give this lunatic her own sitcom:

In 1987, NBC had first crack at a working class family sitcom starring then-up-and-coming standup comedian Roseanne Barr. Legendary NBC programmer Brandon Tartikoff famously passed, and the project landed at ABC where it went to series, Roseanne, which ran for 9 years. Twenty four years later, another sitcom about a lower middle class family starring Barr hit the market, and this time NBC and its new programming chief Bob Greenblatt jumped on it. The network bought the multi-camera comedy, titled Downwardly Mobile, with a script commitment plus penalty. Co-created by Barr, her boyfriend John Argent and former Roseanne executive producer Eric Gilliland, who will serve as showrunner, the ensemble comedy revolves around a family and friends living in a mobile home community.

As DH noted, the timing here is rather odd for about a week ago, Barr made some truly absurd statements to

Does that look like a stable person you'd want representing your network?

Beyond this, Lifetime just canceled her series "Roseanne's Nuts" for abysmal ratings.

If that doesn't convince you of the lunacy in play here, take a gander at some of Barr's hits at NewsBusters:

That's just the last three years.

For this behavior, she deserves her own show on one of America's largest broadcast television networks?

Heaven help us.

As a post facto observation, this decision came the same week ESPN cut ties with Hank Williams Jr. for his intemperate remarks concerning Barack Obama.

So an anti-semite that has made numerous disgraceful comments about former President Bush gets a new sitcom while a country singer with no prior history of inflammatory remarks is terminated immediately for a stupid comment about President Obama.

What are these major networks telling us?

#1 For the life of me...

...I can't imagine who would watch this abrasive, unattractive shrew again. Her politics, questionable mental health and utter lack of charisma are poison for discerning viewers.

#2 the same idiots

that watch nbc 'news' programs, leftist 'sit comedies', snl, and law n order. EVERYTHING on nbc tilts left, so this piece of anti-jewish, anti-american white trash will fit right in.

Many people who live in trailer parks are struggling, hard working, flag waving Americans. I'm sure Rosanne's new show will make that clear.

#3 But it makes sense. after

But it makes sense. after all it is NBC.

#4 Doesn't it seem appropriate

Doesn't it seem appropriate that NBC, of all networks, would green light this?

Facts are like kryptonite to the liberal.

#5 Oh yes...

THAT's what my life has been missing: more Roseanne Barr.

#6 Considering what passes for TV entertainment these days . . .

. . . Is anyone really surprised?

Contemporary television has ushered in the bread-and-circuses of a declining Western civilization, where debauchery, humiliation and misery are subjects of entertainment and even envy to a society that seems to feel self-doubt about its basic moral values.

#8 Three episodes, max.

One, because it's new.

Half will come back for number two, just to see if the first one really did set such a low standard for the series.

Half of the second audience will tune in for number three, because they just can't believe that NBC execs could be that stupid.

And that will about do it.

#9 Betting

It lasts longer than Playboy Club.

#10 Or your 30th account here predator?

Ignore the Dead Zippers retread troll.

#11 Do you often spout off

at things with only an opinion? You have more opinions than anyone here at NB, and never any facts to back what you say.

Trailer court trash playing trailer court trash. It will make the characters on "My name is Earl" look highly-educated, suave and debonair.

For the MSM: In your pomp and all your glory, you're a poorer man than me.  As you lick the boots of death born out of fear.

Ian Anderson "Wind up"

#18 Did you say trailer trash?

$50 says Bill Clinton will do a guest appearance (or maybe a guest) on this show if Carville will drag a $20 bill across the set.

At least the Reverend Al "Ebonics" Sharpton won't be the dumbest moron working for NBC anymore.

#19 Newsbubba,

She has mental problems. Of course, this speaks volumes for the dolts that sign her paychecks.

She's just as wacked as that goofball Olbermann.

Maybe they can swing through Pennsylvania and nail some Amish people, too.

You know, Roseanne Barr was actually pretty funny when she first popped onto the scene, and her stand up routine back then was hilarious.

But that was a long, long time ago.

Now she is a dried up old has-been.

Al Sharpton will probably outlast her.

When it comes to lousy television, NBC leads the way.

#24 Dean Wormer told Flounder---

"Fat, dumb, and stupid is no way to go through life--".

Roseanne is back like a bad smell, as is Rosie O'Donnell.

I'm starting to think Wormer didn't know squat.

#25 Ratcheted-Up Propaganda Warfare By Leftist NBC/GE

Barr was hired for a specific purpose - to luridly attack the Right and burnish the Left during this election cycle. Simply put, she is a mercenary. As long as she plays her part for Obama-loving NBC/GE, Barr will last at least till November 2012.

GE already has the pathetically rated MSNBC, so it's not about the numbers but the message they want to promote. Barr is an in the face nutjob addition to GE's network TV line-up for the purpose of advancing the Left's propaganda. The Today Show is their more polished version.

Based on past performance, chances are Barr will self-destruct enough that even NBC will have to terminate her contract.

#26 The execs at NBC

The execs at NBC Entertainment, NBC News, and MSNBC are just bound and determine to sink.

Maybe Comcast is taking this whole venture as one giant tax write-off?

#27 Fat-assed washed-up anti-Semitic former Jew?

Will she be donating her money to help the poor? Thats all she has whined about-I wonder how she'll feel now that she has a job? And to quote an old rabbi teacher of mine, "The worse enemies to the Jewish people throughout history have been converted (former) Jews!" Such as her!

#29 I bet this never makes it to

I bet this never makes it to air.

All of the above Mr Obama? --- How about ALL OF THE BELOW, instead.

#30 In The Beginning ...

Way back when the A&E Channel actually WAS "Arts and Entertainment", their Improv, Stand-Up comedy programs were fantastic, and so was Roseanne. She pioneered a completely updated and different point of view. Her well-deserved TV show was a natural, until it stopped following the lower-middle class roots.
Roseanne became angry and bitter - her personal life seemingly in perpetual turmoil. That's when I stopped watching. It only took a few years, but she had a great run in the beginning.
Now, Roseanne is just a freak, a curiosity, and all because WHY? She USED to represent the majority of the people in this country. But, as Chuck Barkley said, "I aint no role model".

She was good, it went to her head, and now she's just pathetic.
