Open Thread: Liberals Ask UN to Stop Voter ID Laws

For reasons known only to them, liberals in this country have decided that common-sense laws designed to have would-be voters present proof of identity before casting a ballot are inherently racist. They've ranted and raved against the laws (despite the fact that they've been held to be constitutional by the Supreme Court). Now, having failed repeatedly to block voter ID laws at the ballot box and in the legislatures, the NAACP has decided to sic the United Nations on its fellow Americans as Ken Blackwell and Ken Klukowski report:

The far left is making an unprecedented two-track move to derail states’ efforts to protect the integrity of the ballot box for this November’s elections. While the Department of Justice (DOJ) is blocking state efforts, liberal activists are taking this issue to the United Nations Human Rights Council. [...]

the NAACP is taking the issue of voter ID laws to the United Nations Human Rights Council (the successor to the Human Rights Commission), claiming that such ballot-box integrity measures violate the human rights of racial minorities under international law.

So they go to the United Nations. Specifically, to a body tasked with protecting human rights. Just to be clear, the nations comprising this supposed champion of human rights include dictatorial and authoritarian regimes like China, Cuba and Russia.

Let’s give the NAACP credit; they went to the undisputed experts on this subject. They’ve taken this issue of ballot-box integrity to nations that know all about voter fraud and rigging elections, because they do it all the time. Maybe these nations could even provide pointers, as Vladimir Putin’s “election” makes crystal clear that some of these nations have written the book when it comes to subverting the democratic process.

#1 <sound of duct tape ripping off roll>

And, judging by this, which I saw earlier, the UN just might come down on their side.

UN Praises Gaddafi Human Rights Record

Could someone please explain to me  WHY the UN is still in New York and  WHY we keep giving them money?????

#2 It seems that Holder has gone

It seems that Holder has gone after some states to punish them over the voter ID laws. Oklahoma has one and so does Indiana, I think that is right. Those states have not really challenged Obama on immigration so they get a pass.

A well regulated militia being necessary to a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

#3 And the UN can do exactly WHAT?

It has no constitutional authority to do a damned thing. It cannot interfere in US government at any level, nor can it interfere with any state government at any level.

If it gets to be too much of an annoyance, send bulldozers to the area between 45th and 46th Streets in New York and send the whole works into the river.

As for the NAACP and their cheap political theatrics, perhaps they should try group therapy for attention-seeking personality disorder.

#4 I'm with you, Doc!

Let's all go to NYC and do a "Berlin Wall" on the UN compound. I'd lve to have a few bricks to take home.

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

#5 Beyond that

Let's send their butts to Paris

#6 let this jackass get a life

let him rot overseas-enough is enough.
ask this A$$hole if he had to show a photo ID to fly to where-ever he is.?
I think we should have a BIOMETRIC Fingerprint at the time of voter registry
a photo ID will not be needed.

#7 Obviously ...

While never studied, there is clearly a belief that massive voter fraud is a staple of the Democratic party. Democrats themselves fear any measure that might curtail any of these ballot stuffing measures.

For example, how likely is it that poll workers could now be caught stuffing ballot boxes with votes of dead people? Under most state rules today, these votes could have been cast by unknown parties giving cover for the poll workers. With a photo id requirement, these same workers will now be forced to explain how those ballots were submitted.

#8 First of all,

IMHO, those hijacked planes hit the wrong building. UN Headquarters would have done more good. Second, if you took every brain in the NAACP and lumped them together, you MIGHT come up with a marble.

#9 Another shovel-ready story for the media to bury.

I know I put this elsewhere, but since this is an Open Thread I want to make sure everyone has a chance to see it.

United States of Obama?

The real outrage is that  I just did a Google search for "Obama face on flag" and in 3 pages of results, there was not a single reference to it by any of the legacy media:  Not ABC, not CBS, not NBC, not MSNBC, not CNN.

Ditto for the ABC, MSNBC, and CNN and CBS websites, where I also did searches.

#10 That deserves a Blog of it's own, MB

The piece has been on Drudge for 2 days, but you find NOT ONE INSTANCE of it being on the dinosaur media.

Great work.

#11 Howdy, B....I was hoping one

Howdy, B....I was hoping one of the guys here would pick it up, but alas.....

To be honest, I didn't even see it on Drudge (obviously it's not prominent) but what I do see on Drudge is this list of links:

KARZAI: GET OUT!

Afghan president wants U.S. troops out of villages...

Thousands protest, chant anti-American slogans...

Taliban suspends peace talks with US...

AND.......

Obama Fills Out NCAA Basketball Bracket...

Priceless, no?

#12 Those precious Brackets!

LOL, sometimes I think Drudge does that on purpose....I even wrote a blog about it a couple of months back.

And speaking of Brackets....The Won dissed my Gators, as if I need one more reason to loathe the fool.

#13 Is the regime getting nervous?

I hope so.

This was posted on Drudge this morning.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/9144379/Soldi...

It is the first time in history that our combat troops were asked to leave their weapons outside while being addressed by a Secretary of Defense, when they were marched in to listen to Commissar Panetta deliver the latest word from the Dear Leader.

I still say that the US military will be the ONLY thing that can save this country if the RBFSOB is reelected.

#14 ~A friend of mine was a Navy pilot in the 50's and 60's

And he told me once that when LBJ visited the troops in Asia, all the live ordnance on base mysteriously disappeared.
I'll ask him for details next time I see him; I haven't heard that anecdote in a while and my memory sucks when I'm pregnant.

Obama's WTF 2012 campaign slogan: "A dog in every pot"

#15 I heard that from a friend

I heard that from a friend who was in Nam at the time. Clinton went somewhere, Bosnia I think, and the troops had to take the bolts out of their weapons. I am pretty sure that the Marines you see when Obama boards/departs Marine One are unarmed. If they are they the weapons are not loaded.

A well regulated militia being necessary to a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

#16 ~Two things

The Dems know how much they're hated by the people they treat with such disdain, and they don't understand the concepts of honor and respect.

Obama's WTF 2012 campaign slogan: "A dog in every pot"

#17 One thing....

If you ever took the time to review the mountain of legislation sponsored and supported by Democrats over the years explicitly designed for the benefit of this nation's military veterans, there is no way you could in good faith persist in making such a recklessly inaccurate claim.

Jer

#18 ~Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Only a Dem would measure affection by volume of legislation.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Sure Jer, that wipes out all the spitting and the "baby-killer" insults and the habitual disrespect and disdain the Left has openly displayed toward the military for the past 40+ years.

Obama's WTF 2012 campaign slogan: "A dog in every pot"

#19 Good morning Jer

Are you referring to the cuts in pay, cuts in equipment, the cuts in research and development, cuts in personnel, or to the support of our enemies at the expense of our troops.

Democrats love the military like kids love a pinata.

Jesus Loves You so much He died for you

Sam Nunn, and Carl Vinson are long gone.

#21 True, Free...

And so is Scoop Jackson. But there are still many pro-military/pro-veteran Dems, such as this congressman for example.

#26 the sad thing

The sad thing is that if the United Nations did in fact mount an organized campaign against states which "dare" to require identification of prospective voters, even though identification is ALREADY A REQUIREMENT for basic things like driving a car, the federal admininstration under the current occupant would not do a DAMNED THING to stop them. Hell they are the ones setting the dubious example of attacking state governments for daring to require identification.

#27 Voter Requirments

1) People should be required to pass an IQ test to get a Drivers License. 2) A Drivers License should be required to vote (whether the voter has a car/drives or not. 3) Anyone who believes that a FOREIGN "governing" agency should have any input, or precedence, in America's Constitutional laws should be denied a Driver's License automatically since they obviously would fail the first requirement.

#28 Flummery! I say

I see morons on the road every day. And someone was fool enough to grant them a drivers licence AND insurance! Poppycock and fiddlefaddle I say!

#29 I see them in droves on the road, here, Mandrake

And they're mostly sporting license tags that say "Je me souviens", or "New York".

#34 I hope the UN Human Rights Council accommodates them

And here's why --

1) The UNHRC has a ridiculous record, and no jurisdiction over anything.

2) The state's merely point toward such democratic UNHRC members as Cuba, China, and Saudi Arabia to illustrate how Orwellian this appeal is.

3) The US is also a member of the UNHRC this year. If it comes to a vote, the US will either have to vote No and piss off the NAACP, vote Yes and piss off most Americans, or abstain which is as good as a Yes. In other words, it puts the Obama Administration in a very uncomfortable spot in an election year.

So, bring it on, NAACP. Just be ready for the ads from the Super PACs listing you and your allies in this circus stunt.

I see blue helments in my neighborhood, the gloves come off. Also the lens protectors on my scopes.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal/troll!!

#37 Blue Helmets are about as intimidating as squirrel monkeys

based on their willingness to engage. My example is from the History or Discovery channel. I think it was in Serbia where a bunch of European blue helmets were supposed to protect a village. The enemy came in and said, "We're going to attack." The commander of the blue helmets responded by negotiating their escape. That is, the blue helmet soldiers were dancing because they got to live and go home. The village they were supposed to defend had a much worse fate.

I haven't had any kind of respect for them since.

Oh, and I didn't mean to offend any squirrel monkeys out there.

#38 Why the dems want Rmoney...

Can Romney win without the South?

1. Can we in the media really keep referring to Romney as the GOP "frontrunner," given that -- while he still leads in delegates -- he can't seem to win decisive victories in a region of the country that is critical to Republicans' success in the general election: the South?

2. Is it possible that a Republican can be elected president without carrying the South?

3. Will President Obama -- seeing that Romney, still the likely GOP nominee, is struggling to connect to voters in the South -- respond by putting a few Southern states in play, and make a major push to win them in the general election?

It's the smart move. And Obama, for all his failings as president, is also a smart campaigner

...come on GOP, time to wake up!

Napolitano has a new fear!

Baby sh!t.

DHS should be activating condition "Tanish-greenish-yellow", otherwise known as an infant level threat. I've notified #attackwatch and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Folks, don't think this isn't racially motivated! These "children" in their little ass-turbans, need to be stopped! I hope DC Metro has contacted NYPD for tips on surveilling these little bomb-throwers.

#43 MOTOR VOTER

I remember it well! This was the brainchild of the Clinton administration. It worked for him twice. All you needed was a drivers license in order to vote. So Texas, in order improve on the system wants a picture on it. This simple change has caused an uproar. Do we need any more evidence as to the illegal nature of the original method.

BTY! News today that the conviction of Senator Steven's of Alaska was a miscarriage of justice. The bogus conviction served it's purpose.....it kept Steven's from casting a critical vote on Obamacare as it was hanging by a thread in the senate!

#44 I agree with your

I agree with your sentiments.

Stevens lost his 2008 re-election bid due to his false conviction based on the perversion of the course of justice, which gave a vote to his Democrat opponent.

I wonder what role he played behind the scenes?

#45 Would this be the same UN that just praised

Gaddafi’s (may allah sit on his face) Human Rights Record?

The only thing lamer than the UN is the NAACP... they're so dumb, they even elected a white guy to run it.

Shades of Clayton Bigsby.

#46 The UN is a great organization they told us

It was established for world peace.

The UN has supporters on all sides of the equation.

George H.W. Bush told the world that if UN troops moved into Iraq that we've have " a real chance at this new world order."

Clinto sent US troops into Bosnia and they were forced to wear UN insignia, blue helmets and all.

The myth of the UN is similar to the creation of the labor unions; the line goes something like this: "the UN was needed at first and it was good idea but the UN has become corrupted."

Well, not exactly. The UN was created for one purpose: to take away rights and to disarm the member nations' civilian populations.

A disarmed populace is at the mercy of the government. Think Ruwanda and the murder of nearly a million unarmed Tutsi and moderate Hutu by government supported radical Hutu. The UN was there in Ruwanda but they were told to not interfere in stopping the bloodshed. The person giving that order was Kofi Annan who years later would rise to be Secretary General of the UN.

Now think of the words of George H.W. Bush at the UN: "We have a real chance at this New World order."

#47 The spamming Conspiro strikes again

Actually, no, Conspiro. The UN was founded at the end of WWII in order to attempt to prevent a war of that magnitude from happening again, as many institutions from that period were designed to do.

Once again you fail at history.
